December 11, 2013, Raleigh, NC–Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest’s wife, Alice, visited the students of Oak City Academy to explain Operation Home Front. Together, they made cards of encouragement for children whose parents will be deployed during the holiday season. Alice is teaming up with First Lady Ann McCrory to support military families this Christmas. Operation Home Front is a registered 501c3 that supports the families of those soldiers who are deployed.

Oak City Academy is an upcoming urban, Classical, Montessori school in downtown Raleigh. The school aims to provide a flourishing education to both low and high income children through offering a 90% tuition scholarship program to qualifying families. The school also aims to end cycles of poverty for the school’s low-income families through means of an empowering education and fostering genuine community for students and their families. Students strive to create a community of justice by regularly participating in local service projects such as these.

There is a small Family Readiness Group (FRG) in Fayetteville, NC that consists of fifteen families. All of these families will be celebrating Christmas without their husbands/fathers this year, as they are currently deployed and serving their country.

If anyone is interested in supporting this Family Readiness Group, Alice Forest and First Lady Ann McCrory will be collecting Target and WalMart gift cards, checks, or notes of encouragement made payable to Operation Home Front by December 13th, 2013. Donations can be mailed or delivered to310 N. Blount Street, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27601.
