LT. GOVERNOR OF NC, DAN FOREST, VISITS THE CHILDREN OF OAK CITY ACADEMY
Dan Forest, Lt. Gov. of North Carolina, reached out to a new urban Montessori school that provides up to 90% scholarships for its low income students. Oak City Academy is in its third year, has 33 students, and runs pre-k through 3rd grade. The Lt. Gov. spent part of the morning reading to the children, answering questions about “Yertle the Turtle,” and fielding questions about his own role in the government. Dan Forest’s visit fits right in line with the inclusive philosophy of Oak City Academy. Our school seeks to bring children together from diverse backgrounds and expose them to businesses and community leaders in the area. The idea is that if you can build a child’s social and professional network while in school, then they are more apt to have many doors open through which they can realize their dreams.
Danny Breed, the Headmaster at Oak City Academy comments, “At Oak City Academy, we want to encourage a sense of wonder in our students. One of the many ways we do this is simply exposing children to inspiring professionals and leaders in our local community. We are thrilled to have Lt. Gov. Dan Forest here to do just that.”
